Boston College has purchased the beautiful 24 acre Mishkan Tefillah temple property. For those of you who have driven through the Hammond Reservation on the way to the Chestnut Hill Mall, you know how beautiful the wooded area is on either side of the temple.
They plan to use it for parking and office space.
OMG!!! Joni Mitchell predicted this in her song Big Yellow Taxi:
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot
Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got
Till it’s gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
They took all the trees
Put ’em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see ’em
Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got
Till it’s gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
Her lyrics are coming true in Newton!!
So this beautiful forest is called Webster Woods and there is a campaign to save it. For more information or to get a lawn sign that says Save Webster Woods, please go to the “Friends of Webster Woods” web site.

Newton is losing open space and trees every day and should do everything possible to save what remains. I hope Newton officials and residents support the campaign to save Webster Woods!
